random stuff lately in the life of M

Oh lol, the pic of me in my business suit before my interview at Texas XD. SO PROFESSIONAL! Soon I will have to wear suits all the time, once I start teaching for GEOS >.>;. *is a bit scared* OH WELL. I'm still me, even in weird, nice looking clothing ^^;;;.

Let's see... what's happened lately...

Well, me and Helen (disutansu) started OTL Scanlations! So far we've released two InuKai scanlations (Jet Monster's Rainbow Rainbow and Erebus' Love & Peace). I've always thought it would be fun to be Photoshop editor for a scanlation team. It's a lot of hard work, but it is indeed a lot of fun ^o^.

Other news... I'm going to buy a new laptop soon, to make keeping in touch a lot easier when in Japan. I know I want an Apple, but it's so hard to make a decision. Tomorrow I'm going to call Apple's 1-800 number, to ask them questions about what maintenance would be like if the computer broke or had something go wrong when in Japan. If I get some positive answers, I'll probably go ahead an buy one tomorrow. I'm really leaning toward a regular MacBook with 2 or 4 GB memory and a 250GB hard drive, but we'll see. Such sexy specs, though XD.

Life lately has just been me working on stuff for GEOS, working at Camille's (just a couple times a week), and trying (and failing) to sleep. And thinking WAY too much about things. I feel really incredibly lonely sometimes when making preparations to go to Japan, but this is something I've wanted for a long time, so I get through it. PLEASE DON'T FORGET ABOUT ME WHEN I GO HALFWAY AROUND THE WORLD! *flails* I'm so whiny lately, gomen ^^;. *will do her best to bring her stressing/worrying/overthinking levels down*

Mmmm that computer does sound sexy. I just bought a 1TB external hard drive. It's gorgeous. <3

When are you moving to Japan? I'll totally hit you up and visit with you if you're there when I get there! It'd be nice to see a (somewhat) familiar face in a strange and foreign land.

AHHH 1TB EXTERNAL DRIVE? *falls to her knees* So sexy ^o^!

I have no concrete date set to move to Japan yet, but it'll be in a couple months or so. I still have to get a work visa (which can take up to 2 months), but I need an official transcript from my college for that first (which will take another week to get). Getting all this stuff sucks -.o;.

Are you just visiting for fun, or there for another reason ^_^? I wish I could just visit for fun, but I'm too poor for that, so I just went ahead and got myself a job so that I can hopefully sustain myself there.

I'll make a post of when exactly I'm leaving and where in Japan I'll be living when I know, but you're welcome to visit if you want, if our time periods match up at all ^o^.

It is sexy. I'm posting pictures later. :D

I'm just going for fun. I'll be there from September 9 until roughly October 4th. It depends on when the Asia Song Festival is. Then I'm flying to South Korea and then home on October 10th.

I'm hoping to get a job there eventually, but there's that whole college thing that I still need to work my way through. And it might help if I learned some more of the language first.
Jun. 4th, 2008 06:19 pm (UTC)
Yay, can't wait to see the pictures then XD.

That's so cool! Who are you wanting to watch that's playing at the Asia Song Festival?

If you interested in checking out one of the companies that I applied to (I went with GEOS, but there's AEON and a few others too), try and get some teaching/tutoring experience when in college. They loved the fact that I tutored English/writing at my college's tutoring center. Or get TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) certified online, which my best friend is doing right now, and she says it's not too hard.

And you'd be surprised, but knowing the language well is overrated XD. You can get along pretty well without knowing much at all. Or I did anyway, when I went to a college in Tokyo a couple years ago XD. Just learn at least the katakana alphabet, and it'll take you far. The company that hired me didn't even care whether I knew any Japanese or not. The reason I decided to apply there was because I would have people watching out for me, when I didn't know what the heck was going on XD;.

ALSO, I am transfixed by your Kai x Shun making out icon XD. <3 <3 <3.

Argh, I still need to take those pictures. I should get on that.

I'm hoping to see Super Junior there. :D I'm also going to (try) see the SM production of Xanadu that they are putting on because Kangin and Heechul will be splitting a role in it. I'm such a stalker.

I'm not even close to getting my degree yet, but it will be nice to have this information for when I am ready to start looking at potential future-y things, so thank you!

Are you working for a school or for a company? Do you have any information on where you'll be staying and what you'll be doing? I'm honestly really curious about stuff like this because no one I know has done anything like it, so forgive me if I'm being too nosey. :D
Jun. 11th, 2008 12:43 am (UTC)
That would be awesome to see Super Junior in concert. I would imagine you might not even be able to hear the music, from all the screaming fangirls XD.

What are you studying in school? You're welcome to ask more questions about the process, if you ever think of another question ^^.

I'm working for a company that owns their own schools. I have no idea where I'll be staying yet, but I'm told I'll know at least a month in advance, before I go. I'll be teaching classes who knows where, so I'm relying on my sense of adventure to keep me from getting nervous about all the unknowns XD. You're not being nosey! I'm a whore, and will talk about this stuff with anyone who will listen XDD;.
Jun. 11th, 2008 05:15 am (UTC)
I will be one of the screaming fangirls, that's for sure. XD I really hope I get to see them while I'm there. I'll be able to die happy if I can.

I've been an on again, off again college student for 6 years. I graduated from high school in 2002 and I've been attending community college ever since. I was planning on majoring in sociology with an emphasis in sex and gender and women's studies, but now I'm not sure WHAT I want to do. Maybe Japanese and Korean? I honestly don't know. I'm so full of indecision that it hasn't been worth my while to go to school, but I'm forced to for insurance purposes.

I don't know if I could deal with that level of unknowns. O_O I think it would frighten me too bad, waiting like that.
Jun. 14th, 2008 06:22 am (UTC)
But the DVD of the live if you see SJ there. You can make all your friends watch it, and tell them "I was one of those blood-curdling screams in the background!"

Ya know, I'm all for prolonged college study. I thought it would take me a lot longer than it did to get through college. But just hear me now! Since you've already put all this money into it, even if you switch your major, I think you should finish school sometime. I'm super stingy, and hate seeing money go to waste XD. And you seem like you'd like studying Japanese and Korean ^_^. Maybe you can do a double major, or major in one and minor in the other?

I just found out recently that GEOS wants to put me in a school in Yokohama ^_^. *excited* It could still change, but I'll be happy for now, because I'd really like to go there <3. And I'm stupidly laid back, so that's probably why I can handle unknowns with finesse for the most part XD.
Jun. 15th, 2008 01:37 am (UTC)
Haha, that's totally how I was at the Moffatts concerts I went to. Only they were doing a live radio performance at the time and my friend downloaded it for us and you can hear me screaming. It's quite hilarious.

Oh, I'm definitely going to finish school. That was never an option in my mind. But I was forced to go right after high school and I really wasn't ready at all. So I slacked and failed some classes and then I've been dropping some left and right and my transcript is horrid. So I need to figure out what the hell I'm majoring in (triple major? maybe?) and then:

1. Decide if it would be easier for me to start over completely at a four year school.
2. Figure out what classes I need to re-take and apply for academic forgiveness if I decide to finish RVC.
3. See if I can transfer to a good university. UW-Madison preferrably.

There's just...a lot to think about. And I'm using my trip as an opportunity to get away from everyone and clear my head and figure things out.

I'm pretty laid back about things, but not knowing where I was going to be place would be killer for me. :| But good luck getting Yokohama! That would be awesome!

*dances* I hope that you're not working too hard with the scanlations and all. Gomen ne~

And you got your laptop! *is so excited for you* I CAN'T WAIT TO BE COOL AND SEND YOU LETTERS IN JAPAN! XDDDDDDDD
Jun. 11th, 2008 12:45 am (UTC)

If I didn't want to work hard on the scanlations, I wouldn't. But I really enjoy it, so I am. Too bad XD.

And you can e-mail me for the most part, but I don't think I can live without letters from you, so send one of those every now and then, okay XD?
Jun. 15th, 2008 12:13 am (UTC)

Ehhhh... hai. XD Okay! XDDD Also I'm going to erm... forward you something regarding that.

Hai! I just need to come up with something to send you because sending just a letter is weird. XD
Aug. 10th, 2008 07:48 pm (UTC)
Umm... you be my sensei in being more responsible like Helen-sama, and I'll teach you how to be more psycho like M XD;;. FAIR TRADE, RIGHT?

Your letters are ALWAYS appreciated, so no worries letter sending. As long as it says FROM HELEN on it, I'll be psyched <3.
Aug. 12th, 2008 12:00 am (UTC)
It'll say "From: *real name*" but it's all the same? XD

*hugs* I think you'll do just fine!
Jun. 12th, 2008 06:04 am (UTC)
ok, so this is completely random, but i found you through Orestria's journal.... and i just wanted to say that i got hired with GEOS recently too! i just thought that was kind of crazy and cool at the same time and had to say something XD

do you know your placement/when you're leaving yet?

Jun. 12th, 2008 06:08 am (UTC)
Ahh, really ^_^??? That's so cool! Can I friend you? It'd be good to know someone else in the company ^o^.

I don't know my placement yet. I'm getting an official transcript from my college tomorrow, and then GEOS is going to start the work VISA paperwork for me once I send them the transcript. I would guess it'll be 2 months or so until I leave. I was told they would tell me where I was going about a month before I left.

Do you know where you're placed yet?
Jun. 12th, 2008 06:16 am (UTC)
of course you can ^__^

transcripts have been the bane of my existence >.< such a pain that GEOS is the only company that requires the actual official documents.... but whatever. i lived through the pain of transcript problems from my university. from a skim through your recent entries, looks like you've gotten through your own trials with university/college idiocies -_-

i was given a tentative placement about two weeks ago, but with the problems i had with transcripts, my leaving date had to be pushed back two weeks, so i'm not 100% sure that's where i'll be.... the placement was for Ota city though (Gunma prefecture, about 1-2 hours by shinkansen from Tokyo). i leave here to go for my training session on July 20th and fly into Japan on July 26th (just bought my plane tickets on Friday ^.^)

Jun. 12th, 2008 06:29 am (UTC)
You've had transcript troubles too? What IS it with colleges, and not wanting to give you proof of the thing you payed them ungodly amounts of money to earn? It's pretty ridiculous.

Have you already gone through your training in Vancouver? Oh wait, you will on July 20th? I'm nervous about going to Canada, because I've never been before ^^;. Going to a country is always a bit nervewracking the first time, I think. I feel more at ease about going to Japan, because I've been there before XD.

If we're placed anywhere near each other in Japan, we'll have to meet for coffee or something ^o^.

My name's Emily, by the way, but most everyone (in RL and online) calls me M.
Jun. 12th, 2008 06:42 am (UTC)
lol! another friend of mine that's friends with our mutual friend also had transcript troubles that have been threatening her job that's lined up in Korea. i think it's just a ploy to make sure we really want to leave the country XD and it's not even like it's just one country! since i'm from Canada and you're from the US.... maybe it's a North American conspiracy! (or, as you say, the colleges and universities are the ones conspiring against us...)

you might think i'm a little luckier than you with the training, seeing as i already live in Canada, but.... i've never been out west, so really, it's as foreign to me as it is to you ^.^; luckily, i have a couple of cousins living out there, so i'm hoping to see them atleast once while in Vancouver (since that's actually where they live XD). but i think they do the training in Vancouver because that requires people to leave their homes and be uprooted for a few days in an English speaking country before moving to Japan. if someone can't handle being on their own in Vancouver, then they might not be able to take going even further away to a place where English is atleast rarer ^.^;

lol! well, my real name is Holly, but i'm rarely called that (just family and bosses/teachers and stuff XP). it's mostly Mika in real life and online (short for Mikazuki XP)

but yes, if we're anywhere near each other, we'll have to meet up ^__^

Jun. 14th, 2008 06:16 am (UTC)
North American conspiracy... I like the sound of that XD. I think it's probably just a college thing, though. No college wants to just give you your degree so you can GET A JOB, even though they're claiming to prepare you for getting a better job. So dumb ^^;.

Well, we can both have fun going to a new place then ^o^. I hear Vancouver is really pretty, so I'll try to turn my nervous energy into excited energy ^_^. I don't have any family in Vancouver, so I'll be on my own. I know someone on LJ from Vancouver though, and she said I could bug her if I needed to when I was there XD. I've been to Japan before, to study at a college, so compared to the confusion of that, surely I'll be okay XD. *can use her English skillz this time, instead of her not-so-good Japanese skillz*
