Note: Written for sadaoru, because she requested a Naoya x Sota story where they find InuKai doujinshis and try acting them out. I know this was requested forever ago, so yeah... here it is XD;. Hope it's not too horrible of a fic-- I've never attempted real person slash before ^^;. Also, this is only beta'd by myself, if that counts XD;. All grammar and such is my own fault ^.^V.
“If only it could really be that easy...”
“What?” Naoya blearily asked, his head tilting to the side to get Sota in his peripheral vision.
It was definitely turning out to be a long day. Naoya and Sota were currently resting on a sofa together during a brief break from practice for the musical. While Naoya slumped over in a semi-upright position, head at an awkward angle with eyes fluttering closed and open, Sota opted for sprawling as best he could across every inch of leftover cushion, while leafing through a comic.
“I said, if only it could really be that easy.”
“Sota, what are you talking about?” Naoya straightened up a little bit, enough so that he wouldn’t nod off during their conversation. He didn’t want to hurt Sota’s feelings, by not paying attention. Even though they’d been friends throughout these years together working in the Prince of Tennis musicals, Sota was still just as unpredictable as ever. Not that that was a bad thing-- Naoya just sometimes got really, really confused with conversing with the other... especially when Sota was having one of his moments of epiphany, like he seemed to be having now.
“I’m talking about this,” Sota said, waving the comic in the air that he’d been looking through. “Someone mailed it to me as a joke... I bet it was Kimeru, but anyway, I wish it were just as easy as a towel.”
Naoya grimaced a little bit as he rubbed his forehead. He wasn’t quite alert after half-dozing, but was definitely not following Sota’s line of thought with any success. “A towel?”
“Here, on this page, Inui gives Kaidoh a towel,” Sota said as he sidled up next to Naoya, and pointed to the drawings. “And then,” he flipped the page and pointed to the next image, “they kiss.”
Suddenly Naoya realized what kind of comic Sota was looking at. It was just like Kimeru to send something like that. He couldn’t believe Sota was studying it so intently, though. No, wait, actually it was just like Sota to do that. Opposites usually applied when thinking about the other.
“Well, most of those doujinshi are just romantic drivel.” Naoya was too embarrassed to glance at the book that Sota was still flipping through, but Sota probably knew that. Sota offered the doujinshi to Naoya, but he declined, blushing.
“So are you saying romantic drivel is bad?” Sota asked, as he tucked the book back into his bag.
“Well... it’s just... unrealistic.”
Sota was smiling, but Naoya couldn’t tell if it was his madman smile or his genuine smile. There was just the barest difference of degree between the two, and both clearly displayed all of his teeth.
“So does this mean I can’t buy you a towel?”
Naoya’s eyes widened a bit. “What?”
“I’d just like a little bit of romantic drivel in my life, I think,” Sota said, smiling. He leaned over, and smacked a noisy kiss on Naoya’s cheek, before running off down the hall, laughing.
Naoya shook his head, trying not to smile. He never knew what to think after these encounters with Sota. Deciding to use the rest of his break to clear his head so he wouldn’t be distracted, he slumped back down into the couch cushions.
Out of the corner of his eye, he could see the strap of Sota’s left behind bag lying on the floor. He tried to ignore it for a few moments, but eventually he leant down and pulled the doujinshi out of the bag to flip through the pages.
He might as well study up on what he’d possibly gotten himself into. Knowing Sota, he might actually turn up with a towel sometime... but even if he did... It might be nice if it really was that easy.
